Chronicles of the Raven
Book I, The Gathering Storm
The world of Hortus was a beautiful, garden-like world shaped by the hands of six god-like figures, populated with flora, fauna and people from ancient Earth. For centuries, peace and tranquility reigned, the lands enchanted, protected and overseen by four powerful tors, known as the Gates. But the keys to the Gates were lost - some say stolen - in the forgotten mists of antiquity, reducing the beneficent powers of the tors and allowing the potential for evil and avarice to flourish. Now those sinister forces rise and threaten to capture and control the powers of the tors - which can only be accessed at the moment of transference once every five hundred years.
Mama Nabila Warad, a powerful mystical priestess of far off Asland, is handed a mysterious staff and told that it is one of the Lost Keys. She and her votaries must take it on a perilous journey to a land across the seas, where they must find Corvus Corax, the Raven, a legendary swordsman, and the brilliant commander of the armies of the lands of the Green Mount which are home to a Tor, known as the Equinox Tor. It will be the first to become vulnerable. As the Autumn Equinox approaches, the time of transference draws near and a surging tide of savage Barbár warriors, their giant-like shock troops, the Räubers, and even the immortal Angor Shamans and their foul blood magic seek to claim the Tor and its limitless powers for themselves. Together, Corvus Corax, his sons, Cailean and Ligulf, Mama Warad, her three votaries, Yadira, Lupe and Amina and a hand-picked group of heroes must stand against this evil tide.

In Cantabria, the island that is the capital and seat of power for both the Church of the Five, and the dreaded Blades of Sebastian, Scribe Briguglio - a meek servant of the Church working in the office of the Exchequer - meets with Field Marshal Farric, the charismatic leader of the Blades, to explore the past and what it might mean for the future. All is but a Fool’s game, as Latrans, the enigmatic and capricious man in motley, seems to somehow be directing events and pulling the strings on which the others dance.
